How To Store Pressure Washer

One of the most important things when you are looking to use a machine or equipment for a long time, is its storage. A good machine can not work to its maximum time when you place them incorrectly or at improper places. Pressure washers are useful machines, and they can clean anything within the minimum time, but they can easily break down or degrade if you do not store them properly.

Storing the pressure washer without proper settings can not only affect the working, but it is also a safety hazard because worn-out components can cause a burst in the pump and electrocution. In this article, we will discuss how to store a pressure washer and what factors you need to consider. So let’s get started.

How To Store A Pressure Washer

Suppose you are storing your pressure washer for a long time. In that case, there are a few extra steps, such as removing all the fluid out of the pressure washer and covering it properly, but if you are storing it for a short and have plans to use it after a few days or weeks, then you can store them easily in the proper way. These are the steps to do that:

Remove Detergent

Remove the excess detergent from the pressure washer and avoid leaving any detergent inside the pressure washer. Detergents can cause debris formation when left unattended for a long time. Also, make sure to remove any liquid that is accumulated in the pressure washer.

Remove All The Connections

After you have used your pressure washer, the first thing that you should do is turn off the power supply and remove the cable from the plug. Make sure that your hands are dry when you are doing that. If you use a gas pressure washer, turn off the engine using standard procedure. After turning the pressure washer off, wait a few minutes to let the pressure washer cool.

Release The Pressure

After you have disconnected the pressure washer, it is time to release it. Press the pressure trigger to release any pressure build-up, and remove the nozzle properly.

Remove The Pressure Hose

Now make sure that you remove the garden hose and high-pressure hose properly. There are certain things to consider when you are disconnecting the hose. Make sure you are rolling them well to avoid twisting that can lead to leakages or imperfections.

Wipe Your Pressure Washer With Dry Cloths

After removing all the connections, ensure you wipe the pressure with clean cloths to remove all the excess water from the surface. The purpose of cleaning the pressure washer is to remove any water that causes rusting and degrading of the surface. Also, make sure that you properly store the nozzle. Nozzles can get easily misplaced if you do not store them properly because they are tiny.

Store The Pressure Washer In A Dry Place

After you have cleaned your pressure washer, it is time to store it. Ensure you store the pressure washer in a dry place away from sunlight and moisture. Cover the pressure washer in a plastic bag to avoid accidental water spills.

Storing The Pressure Washer For A Long Time

If you are storing the pressure washer for a long time, then you might need to take a few extra steps to make sure that the pressure washer works properly when you use it. These are steps for doing it:

Clean The Inner Compartment

Turn off your pressure washer and remove the power supply but do not remove the hose and valves. Now run the water through the garden hose and let it spill out of the high-pressure hose by pressing the trigger. Let the water run through the pressure hose and continue it till you remove all the detergent.

Use An AntiFreezer

If you are storing the pressure washer for winter, make sure to use anti-freezing agents or liquid in your pump to avoid freezing. Water in the pump can mess things up if it freezes, and you must ensure that it does not happen.

Remove The Fuel

If you are using a gas-powered pressure washer, then it is extremely important to remove all the fuel. There are different ways to remove fuel, and you can also do it by using the pressure washer till all the fuel is consumed. Leaving the fuel in a pressure washer for a long time can cause it to degrade and can harm the fuel tank.

Remove The Oil

If possible, then also make sure to remove the excess oil from the engine and make sure to discard it because it can get degraded after some time. Removing the engine oil is recommended when storing it for more than two months.

Store The High-Pressure Hose

For storing your pressure washer, it is important to take good care of your high-pressure garden hose. Disassemble the hose and put all the valves, screws, and connections in a separate box. Drain the water out of the hose and put it in a plastic bag. If possible, seal their ends with a plastic bag and roll them properly. Store the hose in a cool place because direct sunlight can cause the plastic to disorient.

Final Thought

In this article, we have discussed the storage procedure of a pressure washer. Pressure washers require proper storage if you want them to be used for a long time. Water is the enemy of metal components, and leaving the pressure washer with water can cause rusting and malfunction. It is also important to drain all the detergent out of the pressure washer because it can cause scaling and debris formation. If you are using a gas pressure washer, then make sure to remove all the fuel from the gas tank before storing it because it can degrade and can cause harm to the tank and fuel line. You should also take good care of your hoses and store them properly. The last thing you would want is your new pressure washer not working due to improper storage.
